Cost-Effective Infusion Administration via Gravity Using DripAssist Infusion Rate Monitor
BACKGROUND
In hospital systems, nurses have a range of technologies to assist with the delivery of IV medication. Unfortunately, outside of acute
care, resources and technologies vary considerably. Infusion pumps are useful tools that automate the process of IV infusions. Also
commonly practiced, despite being known for its complexity and inaccuracy, is gravity IV administration.
PURPOSE
Option Care provides IV services in both the home and alternate treatment sites. Each year, we serve more than 170,000 patients
with medications ranging from biologics to antibiotics which are delivered outside acute care. Newer high cost drugs increase

infusion services across the country, we explored cost-effective ways to provide best in class treatment while optimizing patient
outcomes…
